Kate Middleton has being doing a lovely bit of tonal dressing lately which has inspired me to write today’s blog. More to the point, she’s been wearing jumper dresses now that the weather has turned a bit colder which is one of my Winter favourites with boots.

Matching green coat and knitted dress - article from Vogue

Tonal dressing, i.e, wearing matching colours, is super flattering and slimming. It looks smart, classy and elegant too. I’m a natural scruff bag so I’m always looking for ways to try and tidy myself up and look a bit more pulled together. Classic dressers do this very well naturally but alas, to the relaxed/casual dresser like me, this doesn’t come as easily.

Kate looked stylish and simple in this matching jumper dress and coat combo. The coat was from Hobbs and the dress by highstreet brand Mango. The exact green dress she wore seems to have sold out but this one is similar. I’ve found a nice khaki one from Jigsaw (below) if you fancy giving this look a whirl.

Form fitting jumper dress from Mango

I’m excited about the return of more form fitting clothing after a couple of years (maybe more?) or loose peasant style dresses and everything oversized. Whilst oversized is still very much a trend, we are going to be seeing more fitted silhouettes coming through. Victoria Beckham has done a very fitted collection this season and sexy seems to be back for those who want it.

These form fitting dresses look great on curves too. In fact, it’s often more flattering to wear fitted clothes if you are curvy rather than hide away under swathes of loose fabric.

If you don’t like the fitted look, there are plenty of loose jumper/knitted dresses around that look great with heeled leather knee length boots.

Here’s Kate showcasing another tonal outfit - perfect for smart Autumn/Winter dressing. In both cases she’s added a belt which could be a great way of jazzing your jumper dress up. Personally I love a metallic belt and that would probably make the whole outfit a bit less classic and more ‘me’. I’d maybe even wear mine with metallic boots or worn out brown boots. If you’re not a relaxed/casual dresser like me thought, stick to smart heels or neat leather boots for pure polish and class.

I know the coat was from Max&Co but can’t locate the dress. Have found similar below.

Everything the same shade of taupe/camel for a smart tonal outfit.

These LK Bennett creme boots would have same effect for tonal dressing.

Finally these ‘honey’ boots from Russell & Bromely would go with everything and be lovely with a camel knitted dress.
